![]() Book of Abstracts: Albany 2003![]() Conversation 13 Abstract Book June 17-21 2003 Energy Landscapes of Folding and FunctionMany people think of the folding problem as quite distinct from function, hence the ?structure-function? paradigm. This clear separation must be questioned. I will discuss the role of folding in the act of molecular recognition starting from an unfolded state. The physics of the ?flycasting? mechanism will be surveyed in the context of several different systems. The possibility that large scale conformational transitions in allosteric proteins involve the folding landscape will also be explored.
